Child Services

Speech & Language Therapy is offered for all speech and language delays. We place an emphasis on teaching parents and other family members how to work with their children at home between sessions. This maximizes the progress and helps the child reach their potential quickly. Please contact us for details or to schedule a class.

Children and Adolescent Speech & Language Therapy Services

Autism

Communication and pragmatic skills are addressed through a variety of means: the development of a communication system, social story use, scripting, modeling, etc.

Augmentative Communication

Non-verbal low and high tech communication systems are implemented.

Articulation

Mispronunciations of individual sounds are addressed. Articulation errors may include a lisp or difficulty saying the "r" sound.

Phonology

Sound system pattern errors are seen which greatly impact the child's overall intelligibility. Omissions, deletions, and substitutions of sounds are commonly corrected.

Developmental Apraxia

Services focus on the motor system of speech. Exercises and a developmental approach to intervention are hallmarks of this service.

Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS — www.pecs.com )

This system takes non-verbal children through a number of steps to teach initiation of communication. Children quickly learn and carryover skills into life activities allowing them to have their needs and wants met.

Early Intervention

Speech and language services for children 0-3 years old address a range of communication difficulties and disabilities. Children and caregivers are seen together in natural environments.

We are a State of Illinois Provider. Please see the Illinois Child and Family Connections website for more information.

Speech and Language Enrichment Programs

The following programs are available for parents, preschool staff, daycare providers, and others working with young children. Please contact us for details or to schedule a class for your group.

Hanen Program (www.hanen.org)

Parents and caregivers learn skills that encourage communicative interaction in their young children who have communication impairments. Eight weekly group sessions focus on skills parents need to encourage language. Individual coaching sessions (2-3 per session) provide feedback when parents apply their new skills with their child.

Read with Me! (www.readwme.com)

This program is based on language development through literacy. Two weekly group sessions demonstrate easy techniques to enrich your child's development.
